TikTok is now banned from work phones throughout the US Congress
The administration of the US House of Representatives, following the Senate, banned the use of the popular application for posting short TikTok videos on work devices.
A message sent to all lawmakers and House of Representatives staff on Tuesday noted that TikTok carries a “high risk due to a number of security issues” and should be removed from all devices administered by the House.
It notes that everyone who has TikTok on their devices will be asked to remove it, and future downloads of the program will be prohibited.
The ban was introduced under the $1.66 trillion 2023 budget bill passed last week. It contains a provision to ban apps like TikTok on devices controlled by the federal government.
“Following the passage of budgetary legislation that bans TikTok on executive devices, the administration worked with the House Administration Committee to implement this policy for the House,” an administration official told Reuters.
