Grocery shopping on New Year’s Day 2021: Most stores open but Trader Joe’s, Costco, Aldi, Sam’s Club are closed

Unlike Christmas, you shouldn’t be out of luck.Many more national chains are swinging open their doors on New Year’s Day, which is also National Hangover Day.But don’t try to ring in the new year with an impromptu shopping expedition without first checking if your favorite grocery store is one of them. Some stores will have shortened hours and many still are operating with reduced hours amid the coronavirus pandemic.Fair warning: Some major outlets – including Aldi, Trader Joe’s, Costco and Sam’s Club – will be closed Friday. Drugstore chains including CVS and Walgreens will be open on the holiday, along with convenience stores.
