The popularity of plant-based food continues.
JUST Egg, an egg alternative made from mung bean, this month will be on the shelves in 2,100 Kroger-owned stores around the country.

The plant-based egg alternative will be available in coming weeks at Kroger, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, QFC, Fry’s and others. It’s already sold at Kroger-owned Harris Teeter and Roundy’s banners, including Mariano’s, Pick ‘n Save and Metro Market.
“We believe a just food system starts with breakfast and our partnership with the Kroger family of stores, the largest grocery store chain in the United States, makes JUST Egg accessible to countless consumers in communities around the country,” said Josh Tetrick, co-founder and CEO of JUST, in a press release.
The mung bean-based egg alternative is free of cholesterol, saturated fat and artificial flavoring. Its rollout comes as plant-based meat and egg alternatives makes it into mainstream groceries and restaurants.
Earlier this month, Subway announced plans to test a plant-based protein at nearly 700 restaurants, as part of a new partnership with Beyond Meat, the plant-based food company.
The new Beyond Meat Marinara sub will launch as a limited-time pilot in restaurants in Jackson, Mississippi; South Bend, Indiana; Fresno, California; Louisville, Kentucky and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

In July, Dunkin’ said it plans to partner with Beyond Meat to launch a breakfast sandwich. The Beyond Sausage Breakfast Sandwich is available now at select locations in Manhattan, ahead of a future national rollout.
Other fast-food or fast-casual restaurants to join the meat-free revolution this year include Burger King, Del Taco, Red Robin, Blaze Pizza and Qdoba Mexican Eats.
They have added new vegan-friendly menu items from companies like Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods to cater to a growing number of people who want to reduce meat consumption.
