Labor Day weekend is an amazing time to shop because pretty much everyone has a good sale going, and that, shockingly, includes Amazon. But unlike most retailers, Amazon isn’t offering a sweeping sitewide discount. Instead, if you want to find a good deal from the online giant, you have to do some digging.
More: The best Labor Day sales and deals you can already get
Here at Reviewed, we’re quite good at researching deals. We use our product expertise and test results, as well as customer reviews, price histories, and a few other tricks to determine which deals are actually worth your time, then we rank them based on how impressive they are and how good the products are to bring you the 5 top deals of the day.
1. Under $30: Everyone’s favorite Alexa device
The Echo Dot is, hands down, the most popular Echo smart speaker. It’s small size and delightfully affordable price make it great for virtually everyone and every room, and we even named it one of the best you can get. I keep mine in my bathroom! The sound quality isn’t as great as you’ll get on pricier Alexa speakers, but you can connect it to a Bluetooth speaker (see #3 on this list!) if you want.
Right now, the Dot is down from its typical $50 to just $29.99. This is not the best price we’ve seen—that was on Prime Day when it sold for $22. But if you need a gift for someone or don’t want to wait for Black Friday to maybe save $8, we think today’s sale price is perfect. Plus if you use the code DOT3PK, you can get three of them for $69.97. If the Dot was full price, that’d be a savings of $80—what?!—and even at this sale price, it’s still a $20 discount.

2. Save $40: The most popular DNA test kit
The best advice I can give anyone interested in trying a DNA test kit? Never buy one unless it’s on sale. DNA kits are on sale for virtually every holiday, so if you’re patient, you never have to wait for than a few weeks for a price drop. And if you’re in the market right now, you’re in lucky because Ancestry is knocking $40 off the price of their DNA kits for Labor Day both on their own site and with an on-page coupon on Amazon. They cost $100 at full price, and $59 is the typical sale price you’ll find. The only time you can get a price price is around Black Friday and Prime Day, when the price tends to drop $10 lower. But I think spending an extra $10 might be better than waiting two months.

3. Save 20%: Simplehuman trash cans
You won’t ever understand why people spend $100+ on bins to store their garbage until you bring one into your own home. Simplehuman makes the best trash cans money can buy, and while they do tend to cost more than other options, they look nice, work super well, and stay in great shape far longer than cheaper alternatives. Right now, you can get two different simplehuman trash cans for 20% off on Amazon.
I’m a big fan of the larger of the pair because it’s got two bins for trash and recycling. I have the mini version of it next to my bar cart, and it’s been an asset in keeping my home neat without being an eyesore. The smaller one is still perfect for your kitchen, garage, or other common space, especially at under $100. Both are step-open cans, making it even easier to toss your stuff away.

4. Under $40: Our favorite portable Bluetooth speaker
You can’t throw a Labor Day bash without music. I mean a beach day or group hangout isn’t complete without some tunes filling in the awkward silence, and you’re going to a speaker that has a great battery life and is portable, so you can take the party inside. Right now, you can get our favorite affordable Bluetooth speaker for one of its lowest prices in black only. We love this speaker because it has great sound and 24 hours of battery life, making it pretty reliable no matter where you bring it. At this price, you have no excuse but to turn up the jams.

5. Lowest price: The best robot vacuum we’ve ever tested
Robot vacuums are great for keeping floors nice and tidy each and every day, but they come with one major flaw—the fact that you have to empty out their dirt bins all the time. It may seem small, but it becomes some extra work over time. Thankfully, the iRobot Roomba i7+ solved that problem because it can actually empty its dirt bin all by itself and keep on vacuuming. It impressed us so much that it scored a perfect 10.0 in our lab tests, making it the best robot vacuum we’ve ever tested.

This robot vacuum usually retails for a staggering $1,099, but you can save $150 right now, which brings it back to its lowest price. This WiFi-enabled vac also uses smart technology to learn and map out your home, and you can customize how it cleans your home right from an app. If you want to take your laziness up a notch, this is the time to do it.
