Apple, using parts from American companies, will assemble its latest edition of the high-end Mac Pro desktop computer at its facility in Austin, Texas.

There had been reports that Apple would move production to Asia because of issues getting hold of parts.

In announcing the move, Apple cited tariff relief for using certain American-made parts for the computer. “The value of American-made components in the new Mac Pro is 2.5 times greater than in Apple’s previous generation Mac Pro,” Apple said.

Apple CEO Tim Cook thanked the Trump administration “for their support enabling this opportunity. We believe deeply in the power of American innovation.”

Despite the company’s cash cow, the iPhone, being manufactured in Asia, Cook said in a news release that every Apple product is “designed and engineered” in the USA and made up of parts from 36 states.

President Donald Trump had earlier declined Apple’s request for tariff relief in a tweet. “Make them in the USA, no tariffs,” he had said.

Apple has been making Mac Pro computers in Texas since 2013. The product, which starts at a hefty $5,999, isn’t one of its best sellers. The new edition is slated for the fall, though there is no official release date on the Apple website.
