En el duodcimo congreso nacional de Comisiones Obreras en Galicia, Amelia Prez result elegida como nueva secretaria general con el 64,24% de los votos, convirtindose de este modo en la primera mujer en liderar el sindicato en la comunidad gallega. Quien hasta finales de abril haba sido secretaria general de la Unin Comarcal de Vigo, sustituir al frente del sindicado en la regin a Ramn Sarmiento, que en la primera sesin del congreso ya anunci que no se presentara a la reeleccin. Amelia Prez lvarez (Moaa, Pontevedra, 1970) es la delegada sindical de Zara en Vigo desde el ao 1999, solo uno despus de afiliarse a CCOO. Lider el sindicato en la comarca de Vigo durante varios aos y en los ltimos ocho fue su secretaria general al tomar el testigo de Jos Cameselle en 2012. Cinco aos despus, los delegados renovaron su mandato y ahora en la principal rea industrial de Galicia, le sustituye Montserrat Carrera.Aunque la suya fue la nica candidatura a la Secretara General, para la Comisin Ejecutiva Nacional tuvo de rival a Leila Pieiro, que logr el 35,1% de los votos. Amelia Prez destac, en su intervencin, que no solo era la primera mujer en ser secretaria de CCOO, sino la primera en liderar un sindicato de clase en Galicia.
